avant-garde icon before gaga... bjork

I heard some news from my little sister, Erin, on the East Coast earlier today. She may have the opportunity to do an interview with the world-renowned artist BJORK! I'm so very proud of her, but very jealous...

When I was in junior high, I remember not knowing who this insanely creative artist was... outside of the Swan Dress she wore to the Oscars. I found a few songs and was instantly obsessed. Her voice is entrancing and intense. Joga and All Is Full Of Love are two of my favorite songs of all time and Dancer in the Dark is one of my favorite films (I've never cried so hard.). There is so much passion in that woman... singing and otherwise. (I'm trying to stay unpolitical in this post.)

Bjork's style is pure avant-garde... free from any restriction of reality. It is often pure fantasy which is incredibly inspiring. She stirs up so many emotions in my heart.

*Everyone keep your fingers-crossed for my sister... as well as me. (I like to live vicariously through her from time to time.)

formerly enchanted

I don't know about the rest of you, but I was a huge fan of fairytales (esp. Disney) as a child... and I have to admit even today. Disney has branded itself on enchanting the world, but I ran across a quote a while ago that said something like, "Disney has given me false expectations of men."

This is actually how I thought of the name of this blog. In some ways, I am still a romantic, but it has become increasingly more difficult in this modern world.

Some of the best editorials from American Vogue have been based on fairytales, but here are a few that I also like...

The Modern Dreamy-Eyed Sleeping Beauty

Apocalyptic Red-Riding Hood

Princess (with AMAZING bed-head) and the Pea

"On commence."

It's been quite a process starting this blog. I put to much pressure on what my first post would be... to set the tone in a way. Unable to settle on on particular thing, I've decided to just make it a scrapbook or random findings until something really inspires me.

Paris, tu me manques... There is something so incredibly perfect about the city.
